PWM - Pulse Width Modulation

Pulse Width Modulation is pulse width changing. Period and amplitude are not changed.

The following picture demonstrates pulse width modulation where the rectangular pulse width of the carrier signal (yellow ray) takes on different values depending on the rising blade signal (blue ray) controlling the shift keying without any changes of their period and amplitude.
