Router
D.E.V.I.C.E. is an encyclopedia of terms used by manufacturers of test and measurement equipment. T&M Atlantic created this service to better explain the functionality of instruments it offers, and to highlight the latest developments in the world of measurement equipment. We are using such tools as animation to bring words and pictures to life and to create not just an understanding but also an appreciation for technology that goes into the design of every instrument.

Router uses a receiver’s address shown in the data burst and with the help of the routing table identifies the route which should be used for the data transfer. If the routing table doesn’t contain any described route the burst is casted away. Generally it is used for the networks connection of different types which are usually incompatible in architecture or protocols, for example to connect local networks Ethernet and WAN-connections or to provide access from LAN to Internet.
