New Course Announcement: EE-31 Embedded Systems for Smart Home (ESP32, Sensors, Firmware)

10/22/2026

T&M Atlantic is pleased to announce a new practical engineering course: EE-31 Embedded Systems for Smart Home (ESP32, Sensors, Firmware).

As home automation and IoT technologies continue to rapidly evolve, the demand for practical skills in microcontroller hardware interfacing and reliable firmware development is higher than ever. This course is specifically structured to guide participants through the process of building modular, secure, and low-power smart home nodes from the ground up using the powerful ESP32 microcontroller platform.

Course Highlights & Key Learning Objectives

The course provides a balanced combination of technical theory, live demonstration, and intensive hands-on lab exercises:

  • Hardware Interfacing & Protocols:
Learn to wire and program digital and analog sensors (temperature, humidity, motion, light) using fundamental communication buses including GPIO, ADC, I²C, SPI, and UART.
  • Firmware Development:
Write clean, non-blocking C/C++ firmware, manage hardware interrupts, and control external loads via optocoupled relay modules and PWM controllers.
  • IoT & Network Integration:
Establish Wi-Fi connectivity, implement local web servers, and integrate nodes with smart home platforms (such as Home Assistant) using the MQTT protocol.
  • Power Optimization & Troubleshooting:
Master low-power design using ESP32 Light and Deep Sleep modes, and learn systematic methods to diagnose hardware wiring errors and software logic bugs using standard bench tools and serial log monitors.

Course Structure and Format

  • Duration: 10 lessons (90 minutes each), total of 15 instructional hours.
  • Format: Instructor-led interactive lessons combining core concept explanations with hands-on breadboard assembly and programming.
  • Prerequisites: Basic understanding of electrical fundamentals (voltage, current) and elementary C/C++ programming logic. Completion of courses EE-3 Basics of Electronics and EE-6 Basics of measuring with a multimeter is recommended.

Availability & Enrollment

The EE-31 course is available for individual enrollment as well as group training for educational institutions and engineering teams. Practical lab kits and hardware requirements can be coordinated upon course approval.
