Absolute error of my measurement

"Absolute measurement error" service allows you to estimate the measurement accuracy considering uncertainty (error) in the absolute value. Its important if you take measurements at the range edge when the error value contributes to the value displayed on the device screen.

To get the value range itd be enough to enter the estimate of the value under measurement into Value input field and to see the range of possible values taking all of the standardized errors into consideration.

Note: a point is used as a separator of the integer and fractional part.

DC voltage measurements

CAUTION: Do not measure DC voltages if a motor on the circuit is being switched ON or OFF. Large voltage surges may occur that can damage the meter.

  1. Set the function switch to the "DC" position.
  2. Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack. Insert the red test lead banana plug into the positive V jack.
  3. Touch the black test probe tip to the negative side of the circuit. Touch the red test probe tip to the positive side of the circuit.
  4. Read the voltage in the display.

AMM-3031

AC voltage measurements

CAUTION: Do not measure AC voltages if a motor on the circuit is being switched ON or OFF. Large voltage surges may occur that can damage the meter.

  1. Set the function switch to "AC" position.
  2. Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack. Insert red test lead banana plug into the positive V jack.
  3. Touch the black test probe tip to the neutral side of the circuit. Touch the red test probe tip to the "hot" side of the circuit.
  4. Read the voltage in the display

AMM-3031

AC/DC current measurements

  1. Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack.
  2. For current measurements up to 6000μA AC/DC, set the function switch to the μA position and insert the red test lead banana plug into the μA/mA jack, press mode button to select AC or DC.
  3. For current measurements up to 600mA DC, set the function switch to the mA position and insert the red test lead banana plug into the μA/mA jack, press mode button to select AC or DC.
  4. Remove power from the circuit under test, then open up the circuit at the point where you wish to measure current.
  5. Touch the black test probe tip to the negative side of the circuit. Touch the red test probe tip to the positive side of the circuit.
  6. Apply power to the circuit.
  7. Read the current in the display.

AMM-3031

Resistance measurements

WARNING: To avoid electric shock, disconnect power to the unit under test and discharge all capacitors before taking any resistance measurements. Remove the batteries and unplug the line cords.

  1. Set the function switch to the Ω position.
  2. Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack. Insert the red test lead banana plug into the positive Ω jack.
  3. Touch the test probe tips across the circuit or part under test. It is best to disconnect one side of the part under test so the rest of the circuit will not interfere with the resistance reading.
  4. Read the resistance in the display.

Continuity check

WARNING: To avoid electric shock, never measure continuity on circuits or wires that have voltage on them.

  1. Set the function switch to the position.
  2. Insert the black lead banana plug into the negative COM jack. Insert the red test lead banana plug into the positive Ω jack.
  3. Press the MODE button to indicate "" and "Ω" on the display
  4. Touch the test probe tips to the circuit or wire you wish to check.
  5. If the resistance is less than approximately 30Ω, the audible signal will sound. If the circuit is open, the display will indicate "OL".

Diode test

  1. Set the function switch to the position.
  2. Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack and the red test lead banana plug into the positive V jack.
  3. Press the MODE button to indicate "" and "V" on the display.
  4. Touch the test probes to the diode under test. Forward voltage will typically indicate 0.400 to 0.700V. Reverse voltage will indicate "OL". Shorted devices will indicate near 0V and an Open device will indicate "OL" in both Polarities.

Capacitance measurements

WARNING: To avoid electric shock, disconnect power to the unit under test and discharge all capacitors before taking any capacitance measurements. Remove the batteries and unplug the line cords.

  1. Set the rotary function switch to the CAP position.
  2. Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative COM jack.
  3. Insert the red test lead banana plug into the positive V jack.
  4. Touch the test leads to the capacitor to be tested.

Temperature measurements

  1. Set the function switch to the "Temp" positive and press the MODE key to select the "°C" measuring or "°F" measuring.
  2. Insert the Temperature Probe into the input jacks, making sure to observe the correct polarity.
  3. Touch the Temperature Probe head to the part whose temperature you wish to measure. Keep the probe touching the part under test until the reading stabilizes (about 30 seconds).
  4. Read the temperature in the display.

    Note: The temperature probe is fitted with a type K mini connector. A mini connector to banana connector adaptor is supplied for connection to the input banana jacks.

Frequency measurement

  1. Set the function switch to the Hz/Duty position.
  2. Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative (-) jack (COM) and the red test lead banana plug into the positive (+) jack (F).
  3. Touch the test probe tips to the circuit under test.
  4. Read the frequency in the display. The digital reading will indicate the proper decimal point, symbols (Hz, kHz, MHz) and value.
    NOTE: Press the mode key to select the frequency or the duty cycle measuring.

Inductance measurement

WARNING: To avoid electric shock, disconnect both test probes from any source of voltage before making a inductance measurement.

  • Select the range switch for the maximum expected inductance.
  • Conncet the alligator clips to the inductor leads or insert leads of the inductor into meter’s measuring socket.
  • Read the display. The measuring value is direct reading and the electrical unit (mH, H) is indicated.
  • When "OL" is displayed, it indicates overrange situation and the rough (higher) range has to be selected.
  • If the display indicates one of more reading zeros, shift to the next lower range scale to improve the resolution of the measurement.

When measuring the parameters of components directly on the feed circuit, the circuit needs to be disconnected, and all the inductance discharged until the test leads are connected.

NOTICE: When test small inductance (<600μH), please make sure the test leads short circuit, and press REL button then to test.

WARNING: To avoid electric shock, be sure the inductance has been removed before changing to another measurement function.

  • Does AKTAKOM AMM-3031 LCR meter have auto power off function?

    Yes, it does. There is Auto Power Off function in AMM-3031: the device power automatically goes off if you do not use the device within 15 minutes. 1 minute before the device powers off it will make a sound signal and it will also make one more signal right before getting into energy saving mode. To start the operation again press any button or use the rotary switch.

    AutoPowerOff disabling

    To save the battery charge the device is provided with activated Auto power off function (APO).

    In approximately 15 min. of inactivity there comes a warning signal, in one more minute the present function switches the device off. Pressing any key or turning the measuring function selecting knob leads to the device on-status.

    To disable APO mode press and hold REL key, APO indicator will disappear from the screen. To enable APO mode again press and hold REL key.

    Note: APO function is automatically switched off changing in MIN/MAX mode.

    Please explain more about "rdg" in the inductance specification table

    The accuracy of a digital tester is defined as the difference between the reading and the true value for a quantity measured in reference conditions. Accuracy is specified in the format: (±xx% rdg ±xx dgt).

    The first portion identifies a percentage error relative to the reading, which means it is proportional to the input. The second portion is an error, in digits, that is constant regardless of the input. "Rdg"is for reading and "dgt"is for digits. Dgt indicates the counts on the last significant digit of the digital display and is typically used to represent an error factor of a digital tester.
