Gaussian noise

Noise whose probability distribution or probability density function is gaussian, that is, it has the standard form

where σ is the standard deviation.

Noise that is steady or stationary in character and originates from the sum of a large number of small events, tends to be gaussian by the central limit theorem of probability theory.
