The DT830B is a digital multimeter that can measure AC and DC voltage, DC current, resistance. It has diode and transistor test functions as well.

For your convenience the device has a large display. Compact size and light weight will allow you to take it with you simply putting in into your pocket.

Diode testing

AC voltage measurement

  • Connect the red lead to "VΩmA" and the black one – to "COM"
  • Set the rotary switch to the required V~ range
  • Connect the test leads across the source or load that you would like to measure. Check the voltage value on the LCD.

DC voltage measurement

  • Connect the red test lead to "VΩmA” and the black one – to "COM”.
  • Set the rotary switch to the required range. If you do not know the voltage which should be measured set the range switch at the highest range position and then reduce it until the required resolution.
  • Connect the test leads across the source or load that you would like to measure. Check the voltage value and polarity on the LCD.

DC current measurement

  • Connect the red test lead to "VΩmA” and the black one – to "COM”. To measure current between 200mA and 10A, insert the red lead into "10A” (unfused) jack.
  • Set the rotary switch to the required range.
  • Open the circuit in which the current should be measured and connect the test leads in series with the circuit.
  • Check the voltage value on the LCD as well as the polarity of red lead connection.

Resistance measurement

  • Connect the red test lead to "VΩmA” and the black one – to "COM”. In this mode the red lead polarity is positive “+”.
  • Set the rotary switch to the required range.
  • Connect the test leads across the resistance that should be measured and see the results on the LCD.

Note: If the resistor under measurement is connected to a circuit, turn the power off and discharge all capacitors before applying measurements!

Transistor test

Before transistors insertion into the socket for testing make sure to disconnect the test leads from any measurement circuits. No components should be connected to the hFE socket when making voltage measurement with the test leads!

  • Set the rotary switch to "hFE”.
  • Determine the transistor type under testing, NPN or PNP, and locate the emitter, base and collector leads.
  • Insert the leads into the proper sockets of hFE.

Diode test

  • Connect the red test lead to "VΩmA” and the black one – to "COM”. The red lead polarity is positive "+”.
  • Set the rotary switch to diode position.
  • Connect the red lead to the diode anode under testing and the black lead – to the diode cathode.
  • Check the results in mV on the LCD. If the connection is reversed there will be "1” figure displayed.
